Will Poynter
Founder and director
Will is an engineering leader and technical consultant with fifteen years across backend development, data architecture and technical leadership, particularly in healthcare, research and data-rich products.
He has built systems from the ground up, led platform, security and compliance functions, and led engineering organisations of more than seventy people. He co-founded ResearchWiseAI and brings that combination of product development and organisational experience to Porter Valley Tech.
We are named after the valley on the western edge of Sheffield. The company is small on purpose, so you can work directly with the person making technical decisions and writing the code.
Our experience includes public websites, subscription products, learning resources, healthcare platforms and research data. We develop our own products alongside client work, and understand the responsibility of keeping software useful after launch.

Managed research metadata and led engineering for CLOSER Discovery, a search engine for documentation from UK longitudinal studies. Chaired its Technical Oversight Committee.
